AMD Ryzen 9 9000X3D | Specifications, Prices, Availability, and Everything We Know

One of the biggest expectations regarding AMD's presence at CES 2025 is the reveal of the RDNA 4 GPUs. However, based on rumors, leaks, and even hints from the company itself, the Red Team is expected to have more surprises with the Ryzen 9000X3D CPUs to showcase.

Before the official announcement of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, the first model with 3D V-Cache technology, there were rumors about an entire lineup for this series. AMD even referred to it as the "Ryzen 9000 Series," indicating that it would be more than just a single processor, as a series is different from a single product.

Hoang Anh Phu, a well-known industry leaker, recently stated that there is still a Ryzen 9 with cache stacking technology set to be released. In parallel, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D appeared in leaked benchmarks and is expected to be the next member of the Ryzen 9000X3D lineup.

Although the leaker mentioned CPUs with 12 and 16 cores, only the Ryzen 9 9950X3D has appeared in leaks. Considering the core count matches the base series, the Ryzen 9 9900X3D would likely be the SKU with 12 cores.

Specifications of the Ryzen 9 9950X3D
A recent CPU-Z leak featuring the supposed Ryzen 9 9950X3D shows the known number of cores and threads (16/32), along with 128 MB of L3 cache, with 96 MB being 3D and 32 MB being traditional. However, unofficial reports suggest that the CPU might use a single 3D cache CCD of 64 MB, which would be added to the 64 MB of traditional cache found in the base version.

According to this leak, the processor has a base clock of 4.0 GHz, slightly lower than the 4.3 GHz of the base version (which is typical for X3D SKUs vs. base models), but it boosts to 5.65 GHz, which is identical to the 9950X, with the same TDP of 170W.

Performance of the Ryzen 9 9950X3D
There is a leaked benchmark from Geekbench AI with this processor, but this type of test doesn't give us much insight into the overall performance of a CPU.

Another benchmark gives us a better idea. The Factoriobox database reveals that the Ryzen 9 9950X3D delivers 65% more performance than its predecessor, the Ryzen 9 7950X3D. In this test, the next high-end CPU from AMD is 18% better than the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, the current gaming king in PC.

However, as we usually say about such leaks from unconventional tests, the result should not be used as a definitive benchmark to gauge the potential of the processor against other SKUs.

Second Generation of 3D V-Cache
Based on what we know with the arrival of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, AMD introduced the second generation of cache stacking with the Ryzen 9000X3D. The initial implementation came with the new gaming king and is expected to extend across the rest of the SKUs in this lineup.

The main change with this second generation of 3D cache is the position of the cache memory complex, which moves position with the Ryzen 9000X3D. Previously, in the Ryzen 7000X3D, this die was located above the Zen 4 core complex (CCD) and was even visible to the naked eye, but now it is positioned below the CCD.

This change allows for faster communication between the complexes, reducing latency and, consequently, improving performance. Because of this, it was possible to increase the clock speeds of these new CPUs and even allow for higher overclocking potential compared to the previous generation.

When Will the New Ryzen 9000X3D Arrive and How Much Will They Cost?
These are still uncertain details. As mentioned, there are no unofficial mentions of other models besides the Ryzen 9 9950X3D. However, it is expected that the lineup will be as complete as in past generations. The reveal of this processor, and possibly others, should happen at CES 2025.

Regarding pricing, there are no speculations or leaks on this matter. Considering that the Ryzen 7 7950X3D launched at $699, we can expect something above that. Just look at the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, which came in $30 more expensive than its predecessor.

AMD's presentation at CES 2025 will take place on Monday (06), and Canaltech will bring all the latest news presented there.
