AMD CPUs Gain Popularity Among Gamers in 2024

AMD CPUs now account for 38.73% of Steam users, reflecting a 3% increase in December 2024 compared to the previous month. Although there is still a gap between AMD and Intel components, it's noteworthy that this difference continues to narrow.

While processors from the "Red Team" have shown consistent growth in gamer adoption, Intel CPUs faced a third consecutive month of declining results—largely due to widespread issues affecting both its hardware and corporate operations.

AMD saw its share of Steam users grow, while Intel experienced a 0.80% drop between November and December. Meanwhile, Microsoft's "XTA" (an x86 emulator on ARM chips) maintained a user base average of 0.06%, with no recorded growth or decline.

The rise in AMD users on Steam reflects a trend from Black Friday and the holiday season that favored the company, particularly with the release of its "X3D" series within the Ryzen 9000 lineup.

The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU has proven to be a top seller, even surpassing the popular 7800X3D. With new processors featuring 3D V-Cache expected to be announced at CES 2025, these numbers could rise further by the end of January and beyond.
