Samsung's Main Rival in Foldables Has First Images Leaked

The OnePlus Open 2 has just been revealed in images showcasing its potential design. The new device is set to launch as a key competitor to the Galaxy Z Fold 7, with a design that features only minor changes.

The device will retain its large circular camera module housing three lenses, with the flash positioned externally. The images confirm that the smartphone will continue to use a camera system developed in collaboration with Hasselblad, with improvements in areas like lens quality, exposure adjustments, and color accuracy.

The photos were shared by leakers Yogesh Brar and Chunvn, based on alleged prototypes in the final stages of development. While the final model may have some design variations, significant differences from these renders are not expected.

The predicted technical specifications suggest the device could feature larger displays—6.4 inches on the external screen and 8 inches on the flexible panel. For comparison, the first-generation OnePlus Open has 6.31-inch and 7.82-inch screens, respectively.

Performance will be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, a platform launched in October offering up to 45% more performance. Configuration options will include up to 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of internal storage, similar to the current model.

The camera setup could see a complete overhaul, with three 50 MP sensors for the main, ultrawide, and 3x telephoto lenses. For comparison, the first-generation OnePlus Open featured a 48 MP + 64 MP + 48 MP configuration.

Few changes are expected in the selfie department, with the foldable likely maintaining 20 MP and 32 MP sensors for the internal and external displays, respectively.

The battery capacity may increase from 4,800 mAh to 5,900 mAh, and fast charging could rise from 67 W to 80 W. Another potential upgrade is the inclusion of 50 W wireless charging, a feature absent in the original OnePlus Open.

No exact release date for the OnePlus Open 2 has been announced, but it is expected to be officially unveiled in the second half of 2025. The OPPO Find N5 is anticipated to be a rebranded version of this device, with both models potentially launching globally.
