GeForce RTX 5090: Specifications, Price, Availability, and Everything We Know So Far

Among all the new GPUs set to be released in 2025, the GeForce RTX 5090 is the one with the most rumors surrounding it, so we know more about it. Based on unofficial information, let's take a look at the specifications, price, and when the most powerful graphics card of the new generation will hit the market.

As of the publication date, there is no official information from NVIDIA about the GeForce RTX 50 series. Therefore, everything mentioned here is based on rumors and leaks. The reveal of the RTX 5090 is expected to take place on January 6, during Jensen Huang's presentation, the CEO of NVIDIA, at CES 2025.

Rumors suggest that the debut of the Blackwell GPUs for gaming will happen with the GeForce RTX 5080 in early January. The RTX 5090 is expected to launch sometime between January and February. If this unofficial information proves accurate, NVIDIA would be taking a different approach compared to the Ada Lovelace generation, which started with the RTX 4090. It's also said that both GPUs had already entered the final development phase in September.

Alleged RTX 5090 Specifications
It is expected that the chip of NVIDIA's next flagship GPU (GB202-300-A1) will be about 22% larger compared to the RTX 4090's die. This increase is to accommodate 170 SMs (streaming multiprocessors), totaling 21,760 CUDA cores, roughly 24.5% more than what the Ada Lovelace GPU offers.

The cores dedicated to ray tracing, called RT cores, will also increase in number, going from 128 in the RTX 4090 to 170 in the RTX 5090—a 25% increase compared to the RTX 4090, as there is one RT core per SM.

However, the standout feature is the video memory configurations, as NVIDIA's new GPUs will introduce GDDR7 technology for the first time in the market. According to rumors, the GeForce RTX 5090 will be equipped with 32 GB of VRAM, a record-breaking amount for gaming graphics cards.

This memory is expected to operate at 28 Gbps, about 28% faster than the GDDR6X memory in the current flagship of Team Green. Through a 512-bit interface (different from the 384-bit of the RTX 4090), it will achieve 1,792 GB/s bandwidth, almost double that of the Ada Lovelace flagship GPU.

Unofficial information also suggests that the TDP of the RTX 5090 will be 600W—quite high considering the improvements compared to its predecessor mentioned here.

RTX 5090 Performance
It is important to note that this increase in the number of cores does not necessarily mean that the performance improvement between generations will be the same percentage. The number could even be higher, as there are architectural optimizations that may or may not be involved, which is literally impossible to predict.

Assuming the RTX 5090 surpasses its predecessor, we’re talking about a truly powerful GPU, possibly capable of handling heavy 4K gaming processing more independently from NVIDIA DLSS, although the tool will still enhance the user experience by delivering more FPS and better image quality. Additionally, with new RT cores, this GPU could offer the ultimate ray tracing gaming experience.

NVIDIA’s next flagship graphics card is expected to dominate the enthusiast segment with ease, especially since AMD itself has confirmed it will focus solely on the mainstream segment in the next generation, which will likely be called the Radeon RX 90xx.

GeForce RTX 5090 Price
This is still a debated topic. Some leakers indicate a price range around $2,000. However, more recent speculations suggest an even higher price, reaching $2,500 due to new tariffs that will be implemented by the Trump administration in the U.S., starting on January 20.

Considering the latter price, the RTX 5090 would cost almost twice as much as the RTX 4090, which originally launched at $1,600—a price already considered quite high.

It’s important to note that all of this information is based on rumors, even though it comes from well-known industry leakers and insiders.

As mentioned, NVIDIA's presentation at CES 2025 will take place on January 6, and Canaltech will provide full coverage of all the latest announcements from Team Green.
