In vreme ce pestele alb si gras confera protectie impotriva mai multor afectiuni, printre care diabetul de tip II, fructele de mare, desi fac parte tot din categoria vietati subacvatice, ar putea avea exact efectul opus.

Oamenii de stiinta britanici au descoperit ca persoanele care mananca peste gras (somon, macrou, scrumbii) sau cu carnea alba (cod, eglefin, calcan) cel putin o data pe saptamana, isi reduc riscul de diabet de tip II cu 25%.

De cealalta parte, aceeasi cantitate de fructe de mare consumata saptamanal, in special creveti, crabi si midii, creste riscul de boala cu 36%.
