AMD and Intel to Launch Entry-Level and Mid-Range Motherboards in January

We’re just a week away from the start of CES, and rumors are intensifying. According to information from Board Channels, AMD and Intel are set to announce their new entry-level and mid-range motherboards on January 7, coinciding with the start of the event, with the official launch happening a week later.

With the release of the Ryzen 9000 and Core Ultra 200 series, AMD and Intel initially launched the high-end X870 and X890 motherboards, respectively, as is customary with each new generation.

AMD Motherboards

On AMD’s side, the new offerings are expected to feature the B850 and B840 chipsets, positioned below the X series. These will likely support PCIe 4.0, in contrast to the high-end series that supports the latest PCIe 5.0 standard. This information comes directly from the Red Team's official website.

The main differences between the B850 and B840 chipsets lie in the number of lanes and PCIe speed. The B850 will allow for either one x16 slot or two x8 slots with 36 lanes, while the B840 will support a single x16 slot with 34 lanes. It’s worth noting that AMD's B series is considered mid-range, and there is no mention yet of an entry-level segment.

Intel Motherboards

As for Intel, the focus is on the unveiling and launch of the B860 motherboards for the mid-range segment and the H810 models, which represent the entry-level offerings for the current generation of CPUs. Unlike AMD, no specific details about these two chipsets have been revealed. These are expected to cater to the non-K Core Ultra 200 CPUs, which may also be introduced by Intel at CES 2025.
