Domeniul de studiu al chimiei organice este vast si se largeste continuu.Daca in 1880 se cunosteau in jur de 12.000 de compusi organici,in 1950 in jur de 500.000,in 1960 in jur de 1.750.000,astazi se cunosc peste 12.000.000 de compusi organici.
