Microsoft is currently hosting its WinHEC conference in China, giving users an insight into how Windows 10 is going to work when its released this summer.
The news isn't all good, however. Ars Technica spotted a slide which addresses Windows Secure Boot, a feature implemented in Windows 8 that is related to the "Made for Windows 8 sticker". In order to get the sticker, Windows 8 machines had to support UEFI Secure Boot which, on every startup, checked to see if all aspects of the system were valid via a set of unique codes that must match up.
Secure Boot is well intentioned, aiming to prevent malware being injected into the operating system at low levels, but the downside is that when the feature is enabled versions of Linux and other alternative operating systems will not boot because Secure Boot fails to recognize the validity of their codes.
In Windows 8, Microsoft mandated that a button be included that allowed the user to turn Secure Boot off - presumably before installing an alternative OS - but it looks like Microsoft won't be doing the same for Windows 10, creating a massive headache for both users and developers of Linux and other operating systems.
The slide is below and clearly shows that Secure Boot "must be enabled" when shipped and its then up to the OEM to decide "whether to allow [the] end user to turn off Secure Boot". This, in turn, could potentially lead to OEMs locking out Linux or at least making it very hard to install an alternative OS.

Do you think it has something to do with that I couldn't install Windows 8.1 all over Windows 10 ? [ '' Setups has failed to determine the install options '' ] ?

I dont know what the sources are, but they are exaggerating.

I can install any OS in a secure boot environment, as long as it's signed.

You can install Ubuntu, Fedora, etc on a SecureBoot system, without disableing it.

Also, this feature will be mandatory (from what i understand) on laptops that ship with Windows. I understand you can still install windows10 on non-SecureBoot systems.

You're right , I even tried this and it worked like a charm .

Also , why Windows 10 disable any of my Windows 8.1 setups ? [ Genuine Windows , by the way ] .

A lot of words got another meaning '' on the streets '' .

If my Windows fails to install : click here , it would do the same on VM ?

Depends on the problem. If it's a problem with your PC, than it will install fine i a VM.

But it could also be a problem with the iso. In this case, it would fail under a VM too, because the iso is damanged. Try redownloading in this case.

Dunno means 'don't know'. On 'the streets' too. Also, I dont think you live in an english speaking neighborhood..

That's it .

Also , if I run Windows 10 on my Desktop PC and I want to install Windows 8.1 over it ... I'll get '' setup has failed to determine the install options '' .

With any image .

Is this normal ?

Unfortunately , no , I don't ... but I spoke with guys who lived on the USA streets [ no , it's not a happy story , not far out ] and from the outside you might think the term is ok , meanwhile it is not .

i spoke cred ca ar fi corect in cazu tau. Nus sigur, dar nu cred ca e 'i have spoke'.

si 'and from the outside'.

I think the problem is that you are choosing the 'upgrade windows' option after booting the DVD. You have to go an repartition the hard drive on your own.

As i recall, windows won't let you 'upgrade' to an older version. Only a fresh install.

Sorry , I wrote in a hurry .

P.S : But ... Before Windows 10 , Windows had not any problem with '' upgrading '' to an older version ...

Ex . : Windows 7 over Windows 8.1 ...

Or even Windows XP over Windows 7 and so on ...

What's new here ?

No idea, i always just deleted my partitions. I think it was the same thing, just that you didnt notice.

I think i've seen that message a while back, so i don't think it's new. You might just not have encountered it before.

my mind = blown .

How it worked before and now it fails ?

I'm sure the upside 2 examples with XP , 7 / 8 & 8 . 1 worked with no deleted partitions .

The situation change itself when [ and with ] Windows 10 show up .

probably because you're using words wrong :)).

Like 'nigga'. It doesn't mean friend. :)) Unless you're black.  People who dont like racist words tend to like then depending on the race of the one who tells them. Which is kinda racist.

I've never used those words ...

Last time I've made a joke about a .GIF where 2 guys got a Surface Pro and an usual laptop .

A black guy broke the laptop , thinking it's the same as the Surface and I said : '' Is beyond their understanding power '' and they warned me with 2 points for Racism .

But my joke was for the both guys , they've been so amazed by what they've got ...

Is that racism ?

You know you didn't mean to say that, but they didn't. Don't mind stuff like that, people are jumpy. Explain what you wanted to say if you have to, or ignore them.

Racist people will see racism in every thing.

I convinced them also to drop out my both warns [ 2 points each ] for racism and piracy encouraging .

But I must say you're very '' straight to the point '' as I hoped so .

Thanks for your tips , worked as always .

P.S : Windows 10 killed me again .  :))  - http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-windows_install/something-happened-setup-has-failed-to-determine/198c9117-9d0f-4f63-8a83-e151cfa84bc9 .
